We are currently recruiting for a Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job Description

As the Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide clinical expertise to both inpatient and outpatient departments in any areas relating to wound care and tissue viability. You will be responsible and accountable for own practice within the clinical area and for delivering a high quality service to all stakeholders whilst identifying areas for development and implementing and evaluating change.

Your main focus will be to achieve the highest possible standard of nursing care which balances customer satisfaction with the most efficient use of resources.

You will work independently to support the patients, Consultants, nursing teams and Allied Health Professionals within their defined scope of practice and be an educational resource to both patients and their families/carers and all clinical staff.

Hours: Part time 20 hrs pw

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Act as an advisor to colleagues within the ward and OPD
  • Ensure colleagues are aware of procedures, guidelines, changes and developments in wound care
  • To advise all areas within the hospital including chemo, renal dialysis and ward areas
  • Teach and assess RGN’s competencies
  • Mentorship
  • Deliver teaching and presentations to all registered nurses in the LBH team on wound care preventation and management on pressure ulcer
  • Training on negative pressure wound therapy by liaising with the company KCI
  • To provide advice and support to clinical staff and patients with complex tissue viability needs
  • Monitors infection control and Health and Safety audits
  • Ensures that all options are explained to patients allowing them to make informed choices
  • Monitors staff in order to ensure that appropriate support is being provided to patients at all times
  • Leads on MDT discussions with regard to complex patient care
  • Ensure that appropriate national guidelines and HCA corporate clinical policy are adhered to in relation to the administration of medicines, blood and blood products

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurse Level 1
  • Experience of clinic specialty essential
  • Mentorship Course
  • Train the trainer desirable
  • NMC Registration and PREP requirements
  • Wound Management
  • Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures
  • Infection Control
  • Time management skills/ability to priorities work load
