- To support the CNO in the clinical leadership of Joint Ventures South
- To lead quality, patient experience and patient safety programmes to improve patient and consultant satisfaction.
- To develop and lead service development programmes to meet business and clinical objectives.
- To participate in workforce planning and the development of a high quality and effective nursing and midwifery recruitment and retention programme.
- Lead on developments in new roles and new ways of working to ensure nursing practice follows best practice guidance and is at the forefront nationally and internationally.
- To work with the service leads to ensure that the clinical requirements of patients are met within a framework of evidence based practice and cost efficiency.
- To support the implementation of the HCA Nursing Strategy
- To deputise for the CNO as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing leadership across the facilities ensuring that an appropriate structure is in place to support nursing at all levels.
- Support the CNO for ensuring adequate clinical governance in respect to nursing services and medical residents.
- Develop and implement the strategic and operational plan of the facility.
- Develop a local strategic plan for nursing (to include, but not limited to, education, research, practice development and clinical audits) in order to meet service and speciality needs.
- Provide leadership to all nurses within the service units and take overall responsibility for their performance management, professional development and portfolios.
- Establish effective working relationships and communication within the facility and across the HCA hospital groups and partners relevant to the hospital.
- As a core member of the hospital team, the Deputy CNO will play a significant role in leading, planning and commissioning new services, identifying continuous improvement to current services and identifying ne innovative ways of delivering effective services and new businesses.
- Develop, maintain and continuously review standards of patient care. Devise and apply programmes for evaluating compliance and implementing professional nursing policies and standards.
- Be responsible and accountable for all resources and budgetary provisions applicable to nursing within the hospital. This responsibility needs to be dealt with within the framework of hospital-determined policy, financial and headcount control.
Skills & Experience
- Registered General Nurse
- Relevant post graduate qualification/s including degree level education.
- 5 or more years senior nursing management experience in cancer nursing (including at least 4 years at NHS band 8C or equivalent, or more senior)
- Experience in leading successful change management.
- Experience in developing business cases and leading implementation of new services.
- Experience in investigating HR issues, clinical incidents and complaints and preparing high quality written responses and reports.
- Experience in adult safeguarding and managing the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act.
- Experience with workforce planning
