Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust currently host the largest adult Gender Identity service in the UK (in Europe) which cares for over 6000 patients from 18 to end of life. This is an out-patient service currently based in Hammersmith and our small multi-disciplinary team sees people who are in all stages of the care pathway. The Trust also provides a national gender identity service for young people in England and together this means we have the largest gender service in the world.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist and Specialist Nurse together will play a vital role together with our Consultant Endocrinologist in monitoring and managing the physical and endocrine needs of the caseload of patients under the care of the Gender Identity Clinic. This work is pivotal in ensuring that hormone regimes are managed effectively and ensuring that physical health needs of patients are carefully managed.

The role entails close working relationships and on-going support of GPs through the implementation of the Shared Care Prescribing Protocol and well as work with other local health services and clinical teams.  In partnership with other members of the Multi-disciplinary Team, the role will be required to support holistically the patient’s safe progression through the established care pathway.

No previous gender experience is required. We are keen to hear from registered nurses from all fields of practice and backgrounds who are inspired by this opportunity and believe they have some transferable skills and/or experience to offer. If appointed we will provide you with a personalised training programme and support package to enable you to succeed. You may wish to combine this role with another role and we are also happy to consider this.
